Unless you're Alvaro Uribe.

Alvaro Uribe is ruining Colombia's Democrcy and becoming another Dictator like Chavez.

This guy in wrapped in two big Scandals :

1) The Agricultural Subsidies that he promised for the poor farmer never reached the peasant guy. They were given to Potentates and Wealthy Oligarchs with Immense Portions of Land. These are the Relatives, Friends and Cronies of Uribe and his Political Supporters, Fund Raisers, and Contributors.

2) He is trying to reform the Health Care System by Decree, By Imperial Edict, by fiat and Ukaze. In order to lower the quality of services and make a few guys richer : His family, friends, cronies, who are the owners of the Insurance Companies, Hospitals, etc ...

His decrees turn the Doctors into slaves with low pay and lots of responsibility. While the Insurers and Big Corporations are exempt from being sued for malpractice or denial of services.

The Colombian Congress has become a bunch of bums that rubber stamp any project of the president. They are totally superflous and useless, like the Congress of Venezuela that is a bunch of Yes Men of the Dictator Chavez. In the case of Colombia a great portion of congressmen are Paracos, Paramilitaries, Narcos, etc ... Those people put Uribe in Power, 8 years ago.

There is a Great Possibility that the Citizens are going to reject and turn down this new dictator of Colombia. The Referendum may be killed in the Constitutional Court and the Public is becoming very negative towards a third term for the DemiGod.

Alvaro Uribe had a great frustration in another idiotic poorly planned referendum. The Public already knows that this man is defeated by abstention. The Referendum requires a big threshold of participation.

The citizens already know that they defeat Uribe by staying in bed.

Finally, sending Colombian Troops to Afghanistan is the most unpardonable Imbecility.

Someone has dubbed Alvaro Uribe as "The man that had a successful idea and nothing more"

Alvaro Urive had the excellent idea of fighting the FARC terrorists, but that does not make him equal to God.

If this guy continues in the presidency, then the Future of Colombia ( and perhaps Latin America ) is very bleak and shameful. This will have many characteristics and the stench of Chavez and Chavismo, a form of Demagoguery and Despotism.

There is a little light of hope at the end of the tunnel, and perhaps the separation of powers ( Montesquieu ) may win in Colombia.

I do not remember well but Thomas Jefferson said something condemnatory about presidents that staty very long in power in a Republic.

"The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that I wish it always to be kept alive. It will often be exercised when wrong, but better so than not to be exercised at all. I like a little rebellion now and then. It is like a storm in the Atmosphere. -Thomas Jefferson, letter to Abigail Adams, 1787

"Every election is a sort of advance auction sale of stolen goods." - H.L. Mencken

"Experience should teach us to be most on our guard to protect liberty when the government's purposes are beneficient... The greatest dangers to liberty lurk in insidious encroachment by men of zeal, well meaning but without understanding."- Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis.
