Obama and humor

Obviously, we should not mistake tone for substance, but I can't help but notice that President Obama's sense of humor is useful in foreign policy terms. Both Hugo Chávez and Daniel Ortega wanted to make statements about past U.S. policies toward Latin America, the former giving him Open Veins and the latter making a speech.

When asked by reporters at the Fifth Summit of the Americas in Port of Spain whether he planned to read the book, Obama, who doesn’t speak Spanish, joked: “I thought it was one of Chavez’s. I was going to give him one of mine.”

and

“I’m grateful that President Ortega didn’t blame me for things that happened when I was three months old,” Obama said.

Humor may in fact be the perfect way to communicate with Chávez, who jokes all the time.

Obama probably already has a dog-eared copy of Galeano's idiotic book on his nightshelf so I'm sure he appreciated Chavez's gift/middle finger.

“I’m grateful that President Ortega didn’t blame me for things that happened when I was three months old,”

As if attempting to remove a bloody dictator like Castro is anything to be ashamed about. If America is to blame for anything, it's for the betrayal of the Cubans who fought and died while attempting to liberate their country.

Overall, it was quite revolting to see Obama's big, stupid toothy grin while these LatAm thugs repeatedly insulted the United States.

Only problem is that the rabid dogs in America --of which Paul is only one of many-- don't have a sense of humor.

I thought the comment directed at Chavez was innocuous enough. But the Ortega comment was in poor taste. Ronald Reagan is rolling over in his grave at the attempt to apologize to Ortega for trying to get rid of him. Chavez, Ortega, and leaders of their ilk guys still hate us, Democrat and Republican. That doesn't mean we shouldn't talk to them, but let's call a spade a spade.

Ortega was talking about the Bay of Pigs, not the contras.

Ronald Reagan is rolling over in his grave at the attempt to apologize to Ortega for trying to get rid of him.I would wager that he's tap dancing in hell for defending the likes of Rios Montt and the ARENA party. You remember ARENA don't you? The ones who played in a role in a government that bayoneted babies, raped nuns and murdered priests.

Chavez is a Madman of Vulgarity and Aggression. He has supported criminals that kidnap people for money and plant Land Mines to kill peasant children in Colombia. And that murder and kidnap Americans in Colombia. The FARC Guerrillas. There are hundreds of video hours to prove this statement. The FARC has killed dozens of Americans.

Forget about Latin American Unity -The USA is still necessary to keep at bay some vulgar indecent Madmen like Chavez, the Castros, Ortega and Correa.

“To President Uribe – with admiration” signed "Barack Obama" Uribe's unplanned power lunch with Obama - Obama's Secret Friend

Uribe's unplanned power lunch with Obama

Some excerpts :

By the end of a 45-minute one-on-one conversation, Uribe had gotten what he wanted. He received his first invitation to Washington, effective immediately, and as if that weren’t enough, he got Obama to promise to visit Colombia.

On a small piece of paper, and in English, Uribe wrote the three items: 1) Security with democratic values, 2) Investment with social responsibility, and 3) Social cohesion. Explanations about each one, and the way the administration’s policies reflect them would be much appreciated.

Uribe showed the paper to reporters, which Obama signed: “To President Uribe – with admiration.” Was Obama not supposed to keep that?
